Team Selection Criteria

SELECTION CRITERIA

A qualifying league meeting is any league meeting that an athlete completed both the running and swimming legs. If the league meeting was at another province the athlete must send a copy of the results to the Chairman before the WP Biathlon Championships.

SA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025

  • Affiliated to WP Biathlon
  • 4 x league meeting (can include Highgate Interprovincial and WP Championship)
  • Team members per age groups: u.9 to u.19: 5 boys and 5 girls
  • Team members per age groups: Junior to Master 70+: all athletes above 1 800 points
  • New Athletes joining 2nd half of season [from January 2025]: Criteria to be confirmed by WP EXCO

Selection approach:
• First 4 athletes on season rankings
• Next athletes / athletes on discretion of selectors

Note:
If schools team athlete is not selected in alignment with the above criteria, the athlete can be in the schools’ team for the Interprovincial or SA Championships to enable a full team to participate.

The selectors may deviate from above criteria if needed.

ANY INTERPROVINCIALS 2024/2025

  • 1 x Biathlon League meeting during the current season
  • u.8 to u.19 – 15 boys and 15 girls  [ A/B & C teams]
  • Junior to Master 70+ – all above 1 800 points
  • To qualify for the “A” team status (Junior to Master+) you must have scored at least 1800 points.

WP COLOURS AND MERIT AWARDS

  • Awarding WP Colours to an athlete: To be awarded to Western Province Colours, an athlete must represent Western province at the SA Championships, thereby earning the right to purchase and wear the Western Biathlon track suit and running vest.
  • Awarding WP Merit Award to an athlete: To be awarded a Western Province Colours merit award, and athlete must win a medal (i.e.gain first, second or third place) at the SA Championships.

WP COLOURS HONORIS CAUSA

  • Awarding WP Honoris Causa Colours to an official: To be awarded Western Province Honoris Causa Colours, an official must serve at WP Biathlon meetings on a regular basis for at least 4 years.
  • Awarding WP Honoris Causa Colours to a committee member: To be awarded Western Province Honoris Causa Colours, a committee member must serve on the WP Biathlon Committee for at least 4 years.
  • Team manager to SA Championships (if away from home).
